Frequently Asked Questions
1.  I see the official dates of the Reunion are July 4-5-6-7.  Can we arrive earlier
than that?  Can we stay later?
Sure--in planning your vacation time to attend the Reunion, anyone is welcome to come anytime
and to stay as long as they would like.

2.  Do we need to let you know in advance who is coming?
That would be very much appreciated.  For us to plan properly, obtain necessary food, supplies,
and equipment, and so forth, we would like an accurate count of those who are coming.  Please e-mail
us at
NewhouseReunion2012@boundarycountylive.com    and let us know the following:
  • Names of all those coming in your particular group
  • Ages of kids who are coming (so we can plan appropriate games and prizes)
  • Let us know for each person if they will be innertubing or not (so we can get the right number
of tubes)
  • The date you plan to arrive, and your contact information (telephone, address, e-mail)
Thank you very much for helping us with this information.

3.  What should we bring?
Bring your usual vacation stuff--sunscreen, sunglasses, beach ball, camera.  And it never hurts to
bring binoculars on any vacation.  We are trying to secure enough innertubes for everyone for floating
the river, so you probably don't need to hunt around for an innertube.  However, you should bring your
own safety life preserver flotation devices for you and your family.  Also, sometimes for younger
children floating the river, parents like to tie the kids' tubes to a parent tube so the kids don't float too
far off from Mom and Dad.  If you want to do that, you should bring your own rope.

For watching fireworks on the night of the 4th of July, many people take blankets to the fairgrounds
to sit on or lie on while watching the event, so you might want to bring your own blankets for that.

It can get cool in the evenings, even on the 4th of July, so you will likely want to bring jackets.

We are planning on having a picnic on top of Hall Mountain on one day.  Each family should supply
their own picnic lunches for that event, as picnics won't be provided for that particular meal.

Perhaps one of the most important things to be sure to bring is the documentation you will need if
you plan to go to Canada.  Passports or Passport Cards are highly recommended.  If you have minor
children with you, it is very important to have either a birth certificate or a Passport for them.  If both
parents are not attending the Reunion, you should have a letter from the parent who is not here, giving
their permission for the minor child to travel to Canada and to return to the United States.

Please read carefully the pages under the Menu Buttons:  "
Entering Canada," "Returning to
the USA
," and "Passports."

4.  Is there any kind of a charge for me to attend the Newhouse Family Reunion?
Is it going to cost some money?
Please see FAQ #5 below.

5.  What about money?
Bring whatever you think you will need to have a great time on your trip.  To help with costs
for providing meals, innertubes, etc., we are asking a small registration fee from all those
attending, $20 for each adult and $10 for each child.  This money will help cover the costs
for 4 complete meals for everyone (we estimate around 50 people-- 50 people x 4 meals = 200 meals!),
snacks for Game Night and Movie Night, game supplies, ammunition for our shooting activities,
innertubes, and other incidental expenses that always are necessary in a big event like this.  Thanks for
being understanding about this!  You can either pay this registration on arrival, or mail it to us at:
3691 Moon Shadow Road, Bonners Ferry, Idaho  83805.

6.  If we go to Canada, do we need to have Canadian money?
Not necessarily.  If you want to take Canadian money with you to Canada, you can exchange for
Canadian money at any of our local banks.  You will get a fair rate of exchange there.
You can also just use American greenbacks in Canada if you wish.  Generally every merchant in
Canada will accept American money and give you their own exchange rate, but you take your own
chance as to what exchange rate an individual merchant might come up with.
The easiest thing to do for spending in Canada is to just use your credit or debit card--Visa,
MasterCard, etc.  Those cards are accepted readily in Canada, and when you use a card like that
for purchases in Canada, your Canadian purchase amount is automatically calculated, converted, and
billed to your account--by your own card company--in American dollars at a fair current rate
of exchange.

7.  Do we need to learn any foreign languages to make this trip and attend the
Reunion?
Newhouse English should get you through.

8.  What is "Newhouse Central?"
What kind of a question is that?  Newhouse Central is the big, main, Nerve Center of the Newhouse
Family Summer Reunion 2012----OK, well, it's our house and yard.

9.  Can we bring pets?
Sorry, but pets will not be permitted at Newhouse Central.
We are expecting a lot of people here including small children.  We are hoping all the people and
all the kids run all over the house and lawn; we just want to avoid any possibility of a pet nipping at a child,
we don't know and don't want to worry about what allergies someone might have, and we are hoping not
to inadvertently have pet poop tracked into the house.  Sorry!  Please do not bring any pets to Newhouse
Central.  Sorry!  Thanks!

10.  Is Smoking allowed at Newhouse Central?
No.

11.  How do I know which bus, taxi, or subway line will get me around town?
Is the airport crowded and hard to find?  What time is the rush hour for the local
freeways?  Should I keep my car locked?
Relax and let all those fears go.  Close your eyes and say these words:
"Moyie River, take me away . . . "

12.  Where do we stay while at the Reunion?
See the Menu Buttons at the left "Hotels and Motels" and "RV Parks." You will find information
there on all the Hotels, Motels, and RV Parks in the county.  If anyone wants to camp or stay in a tent,
that should be no problem.  Staying at our home is a possibility--we do have some limited room
available on a first request basis.  We have a large unfinished basement if people want to just throw down
sleeping bags there--just let us know.

13.  What about Fishing?
Sure!  Feel free to go fishing if you want.  You should have your own fishing gear and a valid
Idaho fishing license.  To find information on Idaho fishing licenses, see this web page:
http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/

14.  Will we need Passports?  Where do we get Passports?
Passports are definitely recommended for adults if you plan to travel to Canada while you are here.
We have tried to simplify instructions on how to get a Passport--see the Menu Button on "Passports" on
the left side of this page.
Minor children can use a Passport, but they don't have to have one--they can enter Canada or
the United States with their birth certificate.  See the information under the buttons "Entering Canada"
and "Returning to the USA."
Be aware that it takes 4-6 weeks for processing to receive your Passport--you are encouraged
to start the process early!
For additional information on traveling to Canada and on returning to the United States, see
the Menu Buttons on the left:  "Entering Canada" and "Returning to the USA."

15.  What is the story on the T-shirts?
We thought it would be fun to have shirts available for the Reunion.  There is a lady here in town
who makes all kinds of T-shirts.  We have asked her to make an Official Newhouse Family
Reunion 2012 shirt, and as an added convenience we have asked her to make available Bonners Ferry
Badger shirts, Idaho and/or Boundary County shirts.  All shirt availability and pricing comes from her,
not from us, and neither the Newhouse Reunion nor us get any part of the money from shirts.  But we
do think they will be fun!  Check out the Menu Button on the left of this page:  "Official Reunion T-Shirts."
